1) New York Society (NYS) Scholars Program This is the sixth year of this outreach initiative to support and to promote local young scholars in their archaeological studies & boost student engagement in the NYS. Open to undergraduates and first-year graduate students at an accredited university within NY City. The two-pronged approach consists of:

(A) For up to six students, complimentary one-year student membership in the AIA, and a subscription to the AJA if desired, and complimentary student fees at the AIA’s Annual Meeting, if the student attends.

(B) Eligibility to apply for the NYS Archaeological Fieldwork Scholarship. One of the NYS Scholars, if they apply, are chosen for a $1,500 fieldwork scholarship. Applications will be accepted through October 28, 2024, and the recipients will be announced at the NYS meeting on November 25, 2024. Special thanks to the NYS Scholars Program Committee, chaired by Dr. Celia Bergoffen in the previous year, and by Dr. Joanne Spurza, in the current year.

2) New Scholarship: The New York Society of the Archaeological Institute of America (AIANYS) and the Metropolitan Chapter of the New York State Archaeological Association (NYSAA) are jointly launching a new $1,500 scholarship. This scholarship will be offered to an undergraduate or graduate student in support of their archival, collections or field-based research, scientific analysis or a public outreach project as long as the research or project is primarily focused on New York City-based archaeology. We invite applications from undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in an accredited US or Canadian college or university, who are preparing a thesis or doctoral dissertation, or are engaged in independent research connected to the student’s academic studies. The scholarship is not a salary and is not offered in lieu of a salary, as additional income or as a supplemental source of funding for a university or CRM-funded project. It is intended to support the costs associated with conducting the research project. Applications will be accepted through November 15, 2024, with the recipient chosen by the middle of December. Special thanks to John Yarmick and the Scholarship Committee.
